Elaine Hurst's Interview

1: How did you get involved in art?

I have always loved art. As a child I drew, doodled, and was lucky enough to have a mother who really supported my interest in art. I was given art lessons from a young age.  As I grew older, I loved art in school, and as something that I did at home. I grew up outside of Washington DC, in Maryland, and so we went to the National Gallery, and other museums quite frequently.

2: What is your favorite thing to paint?

That's a hard question.  I love painting landscapes, and taking liberties with them, to make them my own statement.  At the same time, I love painting horses and dogs, mostly because I am a huge animal lover, and have horses and dogs.  I've also painted other animals, cats, giraffes, elephants, and loved doing those also.  I have gotten interested in doing some sculpture within the last few years, and find horses have been my main focus with that.

3: Where do you find the most enjoyable workspace?

I have painted quite a bit "en plein air", as well as in the studio.  I like both.  Because I love being outdoors, I enjoy the plein air painting, but being in the studio is just as fun, and perhaps a bit easier.

4: How can people find you and your art?

I have a website:  www.elainehurst.com , a Facebook art page: Elaine Hurst Fine Art/Facebook   and a blog: www.elainehurstfineart.blogspot.com
